Qualified Domestic Relations Orders (QDRO)
A Qualified Domestic Relations Order is a court order that provides specialized instructions as to how to pay a divorced spouse all or a portion of a pension plan benefit. It is extremely important to submit a QDRO and work with a financial planner with expertise in this area. QDROs are highly technical and deal with what is possibly the largest portion of the marital assets, a pension plan. Pensions often are the source of spousal support payments and child support payments.
