Cost Basis/Tax Basis
Cost Basis is the original purchase price of an asset. When transferring an asset through divorce, cost basis must be taken into account. A spouse may feel that he or she is receiving a fair settlement based on the current value of the house. But in order to obtain an accurate picture of the settlement, tax issues and cost basis must be thoroughly examined. A CFDP® is trained in such issues.
